Urgent Gmail Alert: Delete Suspicious Emails Immediately

Urgent Gmail Warning: New Cyber Threat Uncovered

Cybersecurity experts at Check Point have issued a critical warning about a new large-scale threat targeting Gmail users. This campaign uses Gmail to steal personal data through malware-laden attachments, specifically the Rhadamanthys Stealer bug.

How the Attack Works:

  1. Fake Gmail Accounts: Scammers create fake Gmail accounts to send emails that impersonate legitimate companies.
  2. Phishing Emails: These emails claim the recipient has violated copyright on their social media accounts and urgently request content removal.
  3. Malware Attachments: Instructions in the email direct users to download a file, which, if opened, installs the Rhadamanthys Stealer malware. This malware then spies on the infected PC and steals personal data.

Check Point Research identified this phishing campaign, noting that attackers use customized emails to impersonate well-known companies, alleging copyright infringements on personal Facebook pages. The threat has been widespread, affecting users in Europe, Asia, and the USA.

Key Points:

  • Global Reach: The campaign targets users worldwide.
  • High Volume: A significant number of impersonated emails have been sent.
  • Targeted Sectors: 70% of impersonated companies are in entertainment, media, technology, and software.

Stay Safe:

If you receive emails claiming copyright violations, be cautious. Do not download attachments, as they may contain malware.
